Introduction
Kippax Valley Devons was founded in 2007 with stud females sourced from Palinga, Wallaton, Benoak, Barnstaple and Vix herds. Since then we have acquired a number of elite, high performance females as they have become available. These include Breedplan trait leaders and Royal Show Champions. In addition, a number of of these females have produced progeny which have been highly sought after by commercial cattle breeders wishing to improve the genetic attributes that make stock marketable. We are totally committed to producing a unique style of thick, soft, medium to large framed cattle. To do this, we use embryo transfer to maximise the genetic potential of our leading female cattle. We believe the key to our future as successful seed stock producers is in the continued development of our maternally solid cow herd. A rigid culling programme has been implemented to ensure that only the top producing, profitable females build on the foundation of our programme. Elite females are selected on the basis of performance, structural soundness, fertility and disposition - only then are they enrolled into our extensive Embryo Transfer programme.
Richard Piper
Richard Piper is the owner of Kippax Valley Devons. He has a PhD and MD in the biomedical sciences and an interest in genetics. He spends his time in Sydney, where he works as a specialist in Intensive Care Medicine, and the Kippax Valley.
Denise and Denis McKinnon
Denise and Denis manage the Kippax Valley Devon Stud. Prior to this, Kippax Valley Limousins was a highly successful breeding enterprise operated by Denise & Denis McKinnon. With a small number of high quality females they were able to breed quality cattle through a very selective A.I. and E.T. program. They used only the best genetics available world wide. The stud was very successful, with many Interbreed and Supreme exhibits at local shows; broad ribbon winners at both the Sydney and Brisbane Royal Shows and class winners at the National Limousin Show and Sale. The highlight was exhibiting the Grand Champion female and Reserve Champion female at the Sydney Royal Show in 2000 from breed display of 138. Their knowledge with regard to nutrition, E.T. preparation, A.I. synchronization, show and sale preparation will be an invaluable asset to Kippax Valley Devons
Leon Hartveld
Leon has years of experience with farm work, including Dairying. He plays a key role in the day to day running of Kippax Valley Devons.
